USET/USEF Elite pre-Olympic Games prep. clinic

Mette and Finally had a fantastic weekend when they went to the USET/USEF Elite pre-Olympic prep clinic.
The clinic was held at the beautiful Epona farm in West Lake, owned by Linda Fowel.
The reason why the clinic was put together was to see what Grand Prix horses we have in USA. For this time it was the west coast riders who got a chance to train on Friday with both Steffen Peters and the national coach Anne Gribbons.
On Saturday the format was that Steffen Peters was warming up the riders and Anne Gribbons was judging the Grand Prix test with perfect help from Jenny Van Wieren-Page as the most qualified scriber.
The test was filmed by a professional videographer,so when the whole clinic was done on Saturday,we had a chance to sit down with Anne and review and go over the test.
The teamwork between Anne and Steffen was great! Also to have Jenny there so that the riders had a chance to have a good talk, ask questions and get answers was really nice and helpful.

Mette felt that this clinic had the best format ever! Training and test-riding are two totally different things and its an eye-opener to work even harder. Mette is very grateful that she got a chance to be part of the big picture and is very thankful for her wonderful horse Finally, for Finally partner and for her best groom Anna. Without everybodys support this would be even harder.

Mette and Finally at the USDF National Symposium

Over the weekend the USDF presented the 2011 National symposium in San Diego, CA. This symposium featured the USEF national dressage coaches: Anne Gribbons (Technical Advisor and National coach), Scott Hassler (Young Horse coach), Debbie McDonald (Developing coach) and Jeremy Steinberg (Youth coach). This was the first time they were all gathered together in one arena, providing tips for effective training as they showed the building blocks for success, through Grand Prix.
We were very pleased and proud to see Mette ride Finally in the High performance presentation by Anne Gribbons on Saturday. Finally looked fantastic in front of a large crowed in the big indoor arena in Del Mar. Anne Gribbons was very excited about Finally and she thinks he is an extremely talanted horse.
Along with Mette and Finally in the High performance group were Steffen Peters riding Weltino's Magic, who recently won the Pan American games gold medal and Adrienne Lyle riding her Grand Prix horse Wizard.
Through out the weekend the audience got to watch many very nice, high quality horses from the young four year olds all the way up to Grand Prix level. Between the rides there was also time set to ask questions. What was mainly pointed out was that good riding and good horsemanship is the key to a happy and healthy horse that will perform their best.

Training with Steffen Peters and invited to ride in the USDF National Convention and Symposium

The CDI show season has not yet started so Mette is really focusing on her training.
For the past couple of weeks Mette and Finally has been down in San Diego training with Steffen Peters. Mette has been going back and forth between LA and San Diego to be able to ride Finally as much as possible with Steffen and also take care of everything at home. Its been a lot of driving but so far everything has been really smooth.

Mette is thankful for her assistante Anna Dahlberg who is carrying a heavy load toghether with her working students Jayne Bailey and Katelynn Shaw. Everyone is putting in a big effort to make this work. Mette also really appreciate that all her clients are so excited and supportive that she is getting such good help with her training.

Finally is doing really well!! Steffen is very pleased with him and his progress. Together with Steffen, Mette is working on getting Finally ready for Grand Prix.

As we mentioned earlier, Mette is invited to ride in the 2011 USDF National convention and sumposium. This will take place in San Diego, December 3-4th.
Mette will be one of four High Performance demonstration riders lead by the US National coach Anne Gribbons. The Symposium will present a unique blend of lecture and live demonstration so its a great opportunity for anyone who would like to watch the best riders and trainers in the country!

Taison is for sale

Taison is a 11 year old KWPN gelding by Negro. Mette has owned him since he was 3 years old and has brought him up all the way up to Grand Prix.

As a young horse Taison was the USDF Horse of the year in Training level, out of almost 700 horses. In 2009 he placed 6th in the USEF/Markel Developing Horse Championships in Chicago. The following year, 2010 he qualified for the Festival of Champions, USEF Championship Finals in Gladstone and was the same year USEF Regional Intermediare Freestyle Reserve Champion.

Tasion started showing Grand Prix this year and has so far won all his classes scoring in the mid to high 60's.

Getting ready for the fall season

After a very busy show season we have all enjoyed the beautiful summer that we had this year. Unfortunately, Mette did not go to Gladstone for the National Championships but has instead been home working for her new goals. One of her main focuses right now is to bring Finally up to the Grand Prix in the end of this coming season.

All the horses are looking great and Mette is really excited for the new season to begin!

Finally finished last season's Prix St. George and Intermediare 1 in the top of the nation. Mette says that he is just getting better and better so it will be really fun to follow his progress.

Taison is also doing well and is looking fantastic while he is continuing to work to get stronger in the Grand Prix level.

Regent, who is still very young, got to enjoy some grass in a big pasture for a month and will soon be ready to come home to start his new "school year".

So it has been a nice but busy summer with lost of focus on the training for Mette and also for her students. Mette is really happy to have such a great group of clients and horses at the stable. Everyone is working really hard for their goals and has also very supported of each other.

In the end of August Mette gave a clinic at the Equistride Dressage Retreat in Michigan which was very appreciated by both the riders and audience.

A big upcoming news is that Mette has been asked, by the national coach Anne Gribbons, to be one of only four demonstration riders at the 2011 National Convention and Symposium, featuring the USEF National coaches.

The symposium will be held December 3-4 at Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego. We will soon give you all an update with more information.

Last but not least Mette would like to thank everyone for their nice comments on her Facebook page. Until now Mette has unfortunately not had any access to anywhere on that page. That will now change!

For her website Mette will get help from her assistant and right hand, Anna Dahlberg, to update the site. This will give you more and quicker updates in the future.

We are all looking forward to a fun and very exciting season so keep checking in to know whats going on!

It's time to focus but don't forget to enjoy every moment!

Great Show at Pebble Beach!!

Mette and her students had a very successful show at the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center.

Mette was very pleased with her two horses Taison and Finally, who both competed with great results. Taison won both of his Grand Prix classes. Finally, who Mette competed in the CDI, won the Prix St. Georges on Friday, was 3rd in I1 on Saturday and 3rd in I1 Freestyle on Sunday. The competition was tough and all of the top scorers were really close.

Mette's assistant/groom Anna Dahlberg showed Hielo Mor in 1st and 2nd levels and placed 2nd in two and 3rd in two. The owner of the beautiful approved PRE stallion is Lisa Mc Dowel.

Anna also showed Cory Walkey's horse Coby in the Prix St. Georges, Intermediare 1 and the freestyle and placed in all of her rides.

Mette's student Adrienne Bessey showed her horse Winston in I1 and the freestyle. Adrienne won three of her classes. No wonder that we all had a really great time.

Good support, great weather in the mid-50s and a nice show grounds made the week really, really fun!

Tasion Wins His First Start in Grand Prix!!

Because I had to cancel the Flintridge show (see previous story), I had to add on one more CDI show in order to ride a Freestyle test to complete the requirements for Gladstone. There is one more CDI show in Pebble Beach (the last one before the finals) but I didn't dare to wait until the last show. You never know: something can always happen....

So I took Taison and Finally all the way to Rancho Murietta. Taison competed in his first Grand Prix and was such a good boy! Not only did I have a good score, but he also did a really good job. He scored several eights and I felt that this was something he was ready for. We rode in two Grand Prixs and he won both.

Finally won in Prix St. George and Intermediare freestyle. He was fun to ride and is just getting better and better. He has more confidence in the ring, better ride-ability, and soon I think I can ride him in the show ring the way I can ride him in training. It has not been so easy all the time, but I know I do have a super good horse and now I feel he can start to bloom.

It takes the time it takes.

And again, a big Thanks to Anna who is putting her heart and soul into my success. Thanks also to Team Mette: 'Finally Partners' who are always there to support, for good or for bad. Wonderful to have such a fun group of supporters.

One more to go...Always fun!

Mette

P.S. You can find more photos from the show on my Facebook page!

Cancelled Flintridge Show

Unfortunately, I had to make a decision not to go to the Flintridge Dressage show last weekend, due to some recent cases of the Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1) in the area. In order not to expose our horses or help spread the disease, my clients and I all decided to stay home at the last minute. I was looking forward to showing Regent at his first show and Finn was going in Freestyle to help qualify for the finals at Gladstone.

My next show is now in mid-June at the CDI Dressage Show in Rancho Murietta. I will let you all know how it goes!

Fun & Exciting!

Time has gone by so fast lately and everything has been so fun and exciting that it’s been so hard to keep you up to date. Both Finally and Taison have done really well and I’m very proud of both horses. The first CDI show of the year was down in San Diego. Unfortunately, I had a head cold and the stomach flu at the same time and I was wiped out in the hotel room in San Diego. I couldn’t even make it to the jog, so my beloved Anna had to jog Finally. I pulled myself together and went to the horse show, did the warm up and rode my test. And with the spooky indoor arena, which I didn’t have a chance to bring Finally into before, it was just too much. I did pull off a good test on Taison and I won Intermediare II on him.

The next CDI show was Burbank in March. Out of about 30 horses, Finally was 6th right behind Steffen, Guenter and Jan, in both Intermediare I and Prix St. Georges. He was great both days, and so was Taison in Intermediare II. Because of the good results, I was invited to do an observation clinic with Anne Gribbons (Chef d'Equippe of U.S. Dressage). Anne was very impressed with both horses. At the clinic, I went through the Grand Prix test with Taison and I felt that he is ready to go out in Grand Prix the next time. With Finn, Anne was very supportive and thought I have a really, really good horse.

My goal is to make it to the finals in Gladstone and try for spot at the Pan Am Games. So the week after, I went to Rancho Murieta. This time I only brought Finn and he won Prix St. Georges out of 30 horses and was 2nd in Intermediare I (he was beat out by only 2/10 of a point)! It was a fun show with a lot of help and support from my friends and sponsors, especially since I’ve been feeling unwell. (See photos from Rancho Murieta on Mette's website)

Now I'm back to work at home again and Debbie McDonald is working very hard at helping me reach my goal. I promise to write more often in the future!

The First Show of 2011

I took Taison, Finally and five students to the dressage show at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank last weekend. We all had a great time and all of us did very well!

Taison had about 66% in Intermediare II and Finally received 71% in Intermediare I. Both horses were great. Taison is working his way up to Grand Prix and Finally is behaving so much better at the showgrounds and in the ring. It has taken a long time, but I'm really gaining on it. I'm so looking forward to 2011. I love my boys!!!!

Anna Dahlberg rode Cory walkey's horse Coby 727 in Third Level she got 69% and 71% in Fourth Level. She also rode Lisa McDowell's horse, Hielo, and placed really well on him, too. Adrianne Bessey rode her horse, Winston, in Intermediare I and had a clean, well ridden test. She put in a good ride and paid off with a score of 64%.

Tracy Ryan and her horse, Piet, rode Third Level, and even though her horse got a little strong and somewhat tense, Tracy was focused and rode very well. It's not always that easy, to pull it all off when you are in the ring, but Tracy did it. Well done! Anne Solbraekke rode her horse, Carri, in Training Level and learned a lot about how to ride in the show ring when there is a lot going on outside the ring. I tell you, it's easier to sit on the fence post and look in than it is to sit on your horse and look out! Anne is getting better and better and that's the only thing that counts!! Well done!

We had a fun show. It's a great group of people, strong friendships and lot's of good food! Thanks' to all for a great weekend with good rides! Hang In!!!!

My next show will be the CDI, again at LAEC in Burbank. I might ride the open division and wait for the next CDI in March. I have a plan...Hopefully it will work out???
